Reviews about The Rising Sun
- 1 / 5By Frances LeithesWent for lunch... Waited at bar for 15 mins before being served then expected them to bring drinks to table. Another 15 mins later I had to retrieve our drinks from behind the bar. Waited again for about 40 mins to get anyone to take our food order which was very limited. Ordered fish n chips. "sorry no cod, we can do a whole plaice instead". Food turned up eventually, not a chip in sight, instead uncooked potatoes and watery mushy plaice. Took it back to bar and just had a bowl of chips instead. No approach or apology from manager or chef. Used to be a good pub for food but will defo not be going back.May 21, 2017
- 5 / 5By Brian CruickshankBeautiful old pub set in outstanding countryside. Views from the beer garden are sublime but it's the food that keeps me going back.March 23, 2017
- 2 / 5By matthew maclennanService was confusing, "I'll be over to take your order", waited for 15 minutes, went to the bar, "you need to order at the bar". When I tried to pay I was charged the table next doors bill. Simple mistake, but no effort was made to ask me how the meal was or if I would like to see the bill.
Food was crap. The veg had been nuked to death and wasn't seasoned, parsnips were undercooked, potatoes were dry and oily. Meat was overdone and flavourless. The Yorkshire pudding was absolutely great and is responsible for one of the redeeming stars.
The other star is for the stunning views across Wiltshire. The place was clean but well worn. My knife reminded me of school, lightweight, bent and cheap.
A smarmy git, alpha male roams around retelling war stories and boasting. Utterly charmless hipster, give him a wide berth. The rest of the staff seemed well meaning but under-trained.
It is a travesty that such a lovely pub with all that potential is being run in to the ground by a lack of quality control.
Such a shame.November 08, 2016 - 2 / 5By Edward WerrellA real shame. Staff, view and atmosphere are good. The food was really bad. Went for a roast. They served on our plates 2 thin and dry hard to cut slices of meat, 3 really burnt small potatoes and 1 burnt yorkshire pudding. The same on all our plates. Then a single side bowl of veg to share amongst three adults. £11 each for this. It was the first time I have sent food back. The staff did at least not charge us. I am just amazed as they even said that they werent happy with the food after they gave it to us. That is really bad service to give food they themselves were not happy with. I do hope we were just a one off. But I am sadly so put off I am not willing to test if we were. Not eating here again. Lovely for a drink, relax and view but avoid the roast lunch.October 25, 2016
